Holy Redeemer Church Parish Hall & Sunday School
Back to top
This was the third project completed for the Archdiocese of Toronto. Similar to public projects, there is an overseeing administration to which the local user group must respond. The planning process requires working with the local congregation as well as the Archdiocese in order to ensure the project complies with programmatic requirements and budgets.
The challenges of the project were to add a parish hall that would relate with the strong hexagonal geometry established in the original design, and to do it on a tight schedule between the major religious holidays of the Christian year.

This was a new private school built on a greenfield site located just outside of the developed area of Ajax. Full services to the site were not yet built, and it was necessary to deal with strategies to provide transitional systems for several years. The design process included a consensus building workshop with Teachers, Principal and Staff.
The Client wanted the opportunity to incorporate "sweat equity" and donations from the congregation community to achieve the maximum possible facility for the funds available. Therefore, a Project Management process was undertaken to allow incorporation of donated labour and material. The Architect's design had to be tailored for these possibilities. Similarly, the Client retained engineering consultants directly, selecting members of the congregation and allowing for opportunities in cost savings in finding equipment or fitments.
